Hanban is the executive body of the Chinese Language Council International: a non-governmental and non-profitpublic institutionaffiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education.Hanban is committed to developing Chinese language and culture teaching resources and making its services available worldwide, meeting the demands of overseas Chinese learners to the utmost degree, and to contributing to global cultural diversity and harmony. In order to meet new trends in Chinese language learning around the world and address the shortage of Chinese language teachers in foreign countries, Hanban under the authorization of Chinese Ministry of Education, has implemented the “Volunteer Chinese Teacher Program”. This program has been operational since 2004. So far, Hanban has sent nearly 8,000 volunteer Chinese language teachers to 68 countries.

In order to support the requirement of the international Chinese teaching, with the support of the foreign affairs office of Provincial Education Bureau, ATC started to apply actively for “Volunteer Chinese Teacher Program” from 2007. In 2009, our college recommended two teachers and two students to take part in the selection examinations for overseas Chinese teachers of Confucius School . Ms. Sun Yanan from Foreign Language School of ATC, succeeded in passing the test and interview, and was admitted as Chinese teacher volunteer by Hanban. Ms. Sun Yanan is admitted by Gangshan Business and Science University of Japan to accept the intensify training of Japanese language for one year. After that, she will undertake the Chinese teaching for one year in Japan . Now Ms. Sun has arrived Japan for her study.

In January of 2010, on the notice of recruiting Chinese teachers going abroad by Hanban, Foreign Affairs Office of ATC organized the recommendation work. Mr. Wu Jian of School of Foreign Languages was selected as the candidate to take part in the examination. From March 14 th to 18 th , experts of American University Council interviewed all 320 candidates selected from nineteen provinces. In April, Mr. Wu Jian and other 112 teachers were admitted. Among them are only two teachers from Anhui province.
